Craig Wright Did Not Invent Bitcoin and Is Not Satoshi Nakamoto: UK Judge Ruling

U.K. Judge James Mellor has ruled that Dr. Craig Wright is not pseudonymous Bitcoin inventor Satoshi Nakamoto.

For years, Wright has claimed that he invented Bitcoin and therefore has copyright on the Bitcoin whitepaper.

But that’s not true, Judge Mello ruled.

“I will make certain declarations which I am satisfied are useful and are necessary to do justice between the parties. First, that Dr Wright is not the author of the Bitcoin White Paper. Second, Dr Wright is not the person who adopted or operated under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto in the period 2008 to 2011,” wrote Block CEO Jack Dorsey, quoting the judge’s ruling. “Third, Dr Wright is not the person who created the Bitcoin System. And, fourth, he is not the author of the initial versions of the Bitcoin software. “

But there have been many detractors. Since 2021, Wright has been in a legal battle with the Jack Dorsey-backed Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) and a group of Bitcoin Core developers over his claim.

This latest trial, which just concluded this week, began in a UK courtroom on February 5.

In January, before the trial started, Wright offered to settle the intellectual property case with COPA, hoping to avoid a trial and mounting legal costs. COPA shot down the proposal publicly on Twitter.
